I really like these pictures, the first is a pioneer kitchen and the second a porch at a living history museum. The porch reminds me of the movie The Village. (Photos by Flickr user Slongtoo).

Today I had off so for the last few hours we have been watching the inauguration ceremony and related news.  What an exciting day for our country and for history!

This morning when I was feeding the sheep there were a few snowflakes swirling in the air and now a few hours later everything is covered in a beautiful layer of white. The creek is frozen over and I wonder if I will be able to cross it without the ice breaking.

It has been a peaceful morning, I have been getting caught up on blog reading. Congratulations to Mrs. Anna T ( who recently gave birth to a baby girl!

bedroom inpsiration

Lately I've had the notion to decorate my bedroom like a nice hotel room. Which for me means not a lot of stuff but only a bed, dresser, night table, chair, and maybe a few other things. I do really like the upholstered headboard look and might make one myself.

blog I like

I love this picture by Alix. I just found her french blog ( Check it out because she has lots of lovely pictures and she designs her own fashion line. It is mostly in French and since I took Spanish in high school I have no idea what she is writing :)

Yes I love pretty teacups and am always on the hunt for them at my local thriftstores. I did find some at Anthroplogie recently for about $3 per teacup/saucer set. Any other ideas where to find teacups? I guess I could try yard sales too but no one really has yard sales in the winter time, haha. This morning it was about 9 degrees out!

Baltimore Room

I really like this vintage style bedroom. I found it via and there is also an article on the online version of the Baltimore Sun. I'm not sure about the round bed although maybe I need one since I always sleep diagonal.

prairie book

I had heard about The Prairie Girl's Guide to Life by Jennifer Worick for some time now so I checked it out at my local Barnes & Noble.  It has 50 different pioneer projects like making a quilt, hosting an icecream social, darning socks, pie recipes, etc.  If you are like me and love the Laura Ingalls books I think you'll like this one too.  Jen has a fun writing style and these are skills that all girls should know how to do.

Well I calculated my bills and my paycheck and after paying rent and tuition I will have $60 leftover until two weeks from now. I gave my landlord 30 days notice so pretty soon my rent expense will go down. Then I am going to use that money to pay off my braces. Buying little things here and there all of a sudden add up and you are like where did all my money go? Down the drain that is where. That is why it is helpful to me to use Microsoft Money or similar software to track my spending.

Giverny Garden

Even though it is winter here I am already making some gardening plans in my head. One thing I wanted to create is a rose arbor similar to Monet's Giverny garden. We used to have a beautiful book about Monet's garden with lots of photographs. Here I am trying to find some pictures of that particular rose arbor and nothing is coming up in the search engines.

One thing I'd like to find is some fast growing roses! Also, an actual arbor would help. I figure if I make the gardening plans now, then by the time the season arrives I will have enough money saved up for it. Maybe I can acquire some extra bricks for a pathway off of Craigslist.

Dress I like

I really like this dress from Down East Basics. I wish I knew where to find the boots they have the models wearing. I'd probably go with the purple one since that's my color.

Happy Birthday C!

Today is C's birthday, otherwise known as the baby of the family even though he is turning 7! Some of his favorite things are: Legos, skateboarding, UNO, going to school, his friends, being outdoors, playing with the puppy, taking vacations, visiting his older sisters and brother's houses, helping Mom in the kitchen, spongebob, man I could go on and on.

Mom's facebook profile said she is baking him a cake right now so I wonder what flavor it is! I am going to give him some $ as a birthday gift because then he can go to the Lego store and pick out something he really likes.
